In the CSA Share this Week:
- Spinach - the last harvest until Fall
- Carrots
- Cucumbers
- Sugar Snap Peas
- Fava Beans
- Broccoli or Broccolini
- Cone Cabbage
- Strawberries
- Head Lettuce
Produce Notes:
The pointy green cabbage in your share this week is hands down my favorite green cabbage: remarkably sweet and tender, the kind of cabbage you just want to cut up and munch.
Fava Beans! If you're a fava first-timer, here's the long form technique for how-to prepare them. It's a process, so if you're as short on time as I am in the summer the grill is a great solution. Grilling note: the favas you're getting this week are at peak ripeness so they'll be tastiest if you pull the beans out of the pod after grilling. What I love about this approach is that everyone can stand around the grill and shell and peel their own GD favas as they come off the heat! Open the pod (careful, hot!), nip the skin off one side with your teeth and squeeze the peeled bean straight into your mouth. Almost-instant gratification, and a group activity instead of a chore!
